EU Culture Programme (2007-2013)
The Culture Programme aims to celebrate the cultural diversity of the EU and share cultural heritage across borders. It encourages cross-border mobility of those working in the cultural sector, transnational circulation of artistic and cultural output and fosters intercultural dialogue.
The three Programme strands provide financial support for all branches of culture except audiovisual for which there is a separate funding stream entitled MEDIA. Culture Programme activities fall under the following three categories:
Cultural Actions
Support for various cultural and artistic co-operation projects, including:
§ Multi-annual co-operation projects , running over a period of three to five years;
§ Co-operation measures, running over a maximum period of two years;
§ Special measures , which relate to high-profile actions of considerable scale and scope.
The support to European\ Capitals of Culture falls under this sub-strand.
Cultural Bodies
Funding to encourage exchanges between cultural organisations in different European countries, identify the European artistic community's needs, represent the sector in dealing with EU institutions, participate in the public debate on cultural issues, and act as European cultural ambassadors.
Analysis and Dissemination
Analysis and dissemination activities which help to raise awareness of the Culture programme and its activities in various ways.
EU funds will not support the full cost of activity and applicants must show their commitment by finding match funding generally to a value of a minimum of 50% of project costs.
