The catalyst for partnership in learning and skills

FP7

The main EU Programme to support research and development is FP7 (Framework Programme 7). Applicant organisations can be universities, public authorities, businesses and individual researchers and in most cases a consortium must comprise at least 3 partners from 3 EU member or Associate State.  The Programme is divided into 4 broad thematic areas - Co-operation, Ideas, People and Capacities plus one separate theme on nuclear research.  More detailed actions sought under each theme are:

Co-operation – fostering collaboration between industry and academia to gain

leadership in key technology areas.

Ideas – supporting basic research at the scientific frontiers (implemented

by the European Research Council).

People – supporting mobility and career development for researchers both

within and outside Europe.

Capacities – helping develop the capacities that Europe needs to be a thriving

knowledge-based economy.

Nuclear research (Euratom programme) – developing Europe’s nuclear

fission and fusion capabilities.
