Increasing attainment and retention are two sides of the same coin. If we can raise attainment then we are likely to be able to increase retention. Learners will want to learn and the message will spread - increasing retention, at least that's the theory - but we have to work at it and sometimes we have to change our thinking and embrace new and different ways of working.
