EMFEC has undertaken a project related to Sexual Health in the post-16 sector, funded by the East Midlands Strategic Health Authority.

The regional project has three strands:

A Sexual Health Audit
Sexual Health Awareness
Healthy Learners, High Achievers.

The aim of the Sexual Health Audit is to gather information from focus groups drawn from post-16 learners in colleges, and apprentices/work-based learners in private provision, in order to ascertain views on sexual health services provision in the organisation. The views of tutors / managers, assessors and student services personnel will be gathered via an electronic questionnaire. The information will be collated into a report, the findings of which will be used to inform the development of a toolkit of resources for teaching and support staff.

The Sexual Health Awareness strand has two aims, to deliver bespoke CPD to post-16 learning organisation staff and to develop resources for learners. The resources will be written by the sector for the sector through funded development projects. The first project was approved in May 2011 and will be completed and disseminated at the November Network meeting.

The third strand of the project, Healthy Learners, High Achievers, will build on the findings of the Audit to develop a toolkit of resources for teaching and support staff. It will also provide the opportunity for teaching, assessing and support staff to attend Network meetings to share good practice and understand current policy and practice.
