Jordan Elliott, an 18 year old Level 3 Chesterfield College Professional Cookery student from Codnor in Derbyshire was awarded the prestigious title of Young Chef of the Year by celebrity chef and cake maker to the stars Mich Turner at Chesterfield’s fourth annual Food and Drink Awards last week.
Jordan was one of 14 winners, announced at the ceremony held in Chesterfield College’s Heart Space. He received his award along with others from across the local food and drink industry such as the 2 Rosette, 4-star restaurant Cocina at Casa Hotel which took the top title of Restaurant of the Year.
He competed for the title with fellow students Sophie Warren and Josh Clark in a cook off that took place earlier in the year where he prepared roast rump of lamb and baby lettuce followed by strawberry and black pepper sponge cake for judges.
“It feels unbelievable to win. The course has been everything to me. I’ve always liked cooking. Eventually I’d like to own my own restaurant.”
Organised by Destination Chesterfield, in association with Chesterfield College, more than 100 catering and hospitality students prepared and served the food on the evening for 250 guests at the events.
Food and drink establishments, producers and individuals were named as Chesterfield’s finest at the sell-out awards ceremony hosted by celebrity chef and couture cake maker to royalty and the stars, Mich Turner.

“There is clearly a cornucopia of food talent in Chesterfield, and the Food and Drink Awards brought us a banquet! I was thrilled to see the emerging taskforce in the town’s food and drink sector actively involved in the awards ceremony as well as those who have established family businesses. What a wonderful awards ceremony – an inspiration and celebration of the past, present and future.”
