Exciting times ahead as emfec changes its name to Skills and Education Group
I am pleased to share some exciting news…
With the changes that have been implemented at our recent AGM, emfec will become the Skills and Education Group on 1 May.
When I look back at previous blogs, the majority of what they have covered is about how we are focused on supporting the development of the sector. Supporting our Members and the wider further education and skills sector is in our DNA. The resources and project money we have levered into our Members equates to £3.76m over the last four years. This has covered everything from supporting innovation in the classroom through to doing research on governance. Our work has impacted many hundreds of practitioners, leaders, managers and governors and countless thousands of students.
Our Networks and CPD events have made a significant difference to the sector over the time emfec has been a membership body. I have lost count of the people across the East Midlands and beyond who have told me of the impact our Networks have made to their jobs. At emfec, we have much to be proud of; as we look back at our history we can see that we have changed several times including our name over our 106-year history. We are at a similar cross-road and I am delighted to be leading the organisation through its next phase of change.
Following strong feedback from Members in our face to face consultations last year, we will be remaining a membership body for further education and skills providers. The membership will be open to all further education and skills providers and will go beyond the East Midlands region. We are not just a representative body; we support the development and delivery of education and skills providers to enable them to enhance the lives of young people and adults.
We will be retaining emfec as a brand and it will focus on supporting the sector as we always have done. Our charitable objective is the advancement of skills and education to improve the lives of individuals. In transitioning on 1 May 2018, the changes will enable us to bring together a collective membership offer, consisting of our awarding, assessment and Access to HE services.
emfec will continue to deliver high quality professional development that supports the whole of the further education and skills sector, and as part of the new membership offer, we will be developing a new online platform to enable members to collaborate and share best practice outside of networks.
I hope to see many of you at our annual conference on the 16 May 2018, at the East Midlands Conference Centre. There are limited places remaining, so if you haven’t yet done so, book your place!
If you have any questions about our new membership offer, and the transition to the Skills and Education Group please reach out to me.
